In 2013, Chance the Rapper changed the face of modern hip hop with his second, self-released mixtape Acid Rain. More album than mixtape, Acid Rain cemented Chance as a prodigious new talent, able to switch between spitting bars and singing lyrics at will, whilst riding beats that combined the low end of trap with intricate jazz melodies. After a few years spent collaborating with other artists (most notably with Kanye West on The Life of Pablo) this June, Chance returned with the follow up to Acid Rain; Coloring Book. Another huge marker for Chance – who still remains an independent artist – Coloring Book was streamed over 50 million times in its first week. He’s coming to perform tracks from the new album, as well as dipping into the modern classics of Acid Rain, for two dates in Manchester. UK support on both comes from Samm Henshaw, with his spritely take on pop soul, alongside hotly tipped new rapper Jay Prince.
