“One of the most entertaining ‘live’ bands on the planet.” - R2 magazine
Close to the end of the set, she sang a Bessie Smith blues with the line, ‘I’m as good as any woman in your town.’ In New Orleans music, that’s a bold statement – but she is, and better, too.— Alison Fensterstock, New Orleans Times-Picayune
“Prozac for the soul!” - The Hairy Bikers
Direct from New Orleans, multi-time winner of 'Best Female Vocalist' and 'Best Traditional Jazz Artist,' Meschiya Lake & the Little Big Horns are some of the finest performers in New Orleans today. This grassroots organization has been at the forefront of the traditional jazz revival in New Orleans and has worked hard to create all of their own opportunities and successes. They have performed their signature brand of stomps, rags, blues, swing and early R&B at major jazz festivals both internationally and throughout the U.S, made appearances in film and television, including, NCIS and HBO’s Treme, and received glowing reviews and mentions from The New Yorker, DownBeat, the BBC and NPR.
Ms. Lake and her band of lowlifes and mischief makers are hard at work promoting their latest addition to America’s jukeboxes, with the band’s third record, Bad Kids Club. Fourteen songs that are anthems for reprobates, laments for the broken hearted, and odes to livin’ just a little bit dirty.
Opening for Meschiya is What Big Eyes You Have, an experimental confluence of styles and friend musicians including in this rendition Dwayne Brooke of The Woodshedders, Melissa Wright and Daniel Zezeski of Minks Miracle Medicine, Jake Smith of Faster Buffalo, and Rudy Bzdyk of The Plank Stompers. The result is a fusion of folk blues and jazz, vintage rock, and alt-country sounds to render a sonic novelty that has a magnetic deja vu to lovers of all kinds of music.
