Philip Glass’s 80th birthday weekend concludes with the UK premiere of Godfrey Reggio’s trance-like film Visitors, live-scored by the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
Enigmatic, beautiful and provocative, Visitors is a meditation on what it means to be human. This first UK screening with Philip Glass’s score performed live is a compelling climax to a Total Immersion weekend that embraces every facet of Glass’s creativity.
It’s hard to pigeonhole a creative spirit as broadminded as Philip Glass – but whether for Hollywood blockbusters or arthouse experiments, his groundbreaking film scores are truly sounds that changed America. His partnership with Godfrey Reggio on the Qatsi Trilogy resulted in some of Glass’s most inventive soundtrack work to date, and his score for Reggio’s ‘transfixing’ (New York Times) new feature looks set to become another modern classic.
