The iconic Psychic TV was born in 1981, after Genesis P-Orridge dissolved the seminal industrial punk outfit, Throbbing Gristle.
Famed for their intense and visceral live performances with a creative lineage that reads like a who’s-who of cultural luminaries, their confrontational, shock-orientated, multi-media live shows became a mouth-piece for their underground movement, producing over 20 albums from the 1980s, including an attempt to release one live album, each from a different nation, on the 23rd of each month for 23 months.
From the seminal hit ‘Godstar’, to the rave scene of the 1980s, experimental performances and reincarnations in the 1990s of several Psychic TV collections and new material, retrospectives and spoken word projects; the English singer-songwriter and artist, achieved notoriety as founder of the COUM Transmissions artistic collective from 1969-1975 before fronting Throbbing Gristle from 1975-1981 and forming the experimental Psychic TV in 1981.
In 2003, New York artist and musician ‘Edley’ ODowd (formerly of the legendary Toilet Boys), worked with Genesis P-Orridge to reform a new vision for Psychic TV. The result has been a 12-year run of concerts and releases as Psychic TV / PTV3. During this time the band released two full length albums, Hell Is Invisible…Heaven Is Her/e and Mr. Alien Brain vs The Skinwalkers along with a handful of conceptual EP’s and singles.
Earlier this year (22 January 2016), the entire catalogue of Psychic TV/PTV3 was released through Dias Records. Many for the first time ever in digital format outside of the band’s USB stick and a commemorative edition was an iTunes exclusive compilation, Fishscales Falling: A Smorgasbord Ov Delights, featuring live recordings, demos, out-takes and new material from 2003 to the present.
A brand new Psychic TV extended EP, ‘Alienist’, will be released this summer, on 'Edley' ODowd and Genesis Breyer P-Orridge’s own label, Angry Love Productions, and available as a vinyl release as well as a digital download on iTunes.
