DESCRIPTION

Kicking off The Pygmalion Festival 2016 with a bang inside The Accord w/ a stacked line-up.

9:30 Cody Lee Songs
Chicago-based Cody Lee has brought to bear all the strands of his musical DNA into this one gloriously driven LP, SONGS FOR DAMAGED HEARTS. His deeply felt singing and propulsive acoustic guitars quietly remind us if we can pull from our reservoir of inner strength, tomorrow, the sun will rise again.

10:30 Maiden Radio
Maiden Radio is the result of a collaboration started six years ago between Cheyenne Mize, Julia Purcell, and Joan Shelley in Louisville, Kentucky.

With Wolvering, their third album, they demonstrate a unity of sound that seems to come from beyond those six years. Pulling from an ever-deepening exploration of traditional Kentucky and Appalachian music, the trio aims at shining a light on some of the more dark and lovely early-American songs that have survived through the years, re-arranged and sung in three part harmony. While showing a clear reverence and love for the great singers of the past, their music is timeless and beautiful and their original compositions are indistinguishable from the tunes people have been listening to for ages and ages.

11:30 Joan Shelley
While the songs of Kentucky singer/songwriter Joan Shelley have echoes of both the American and British folk revivals, they are also startlingly original. Her warm mellifluous voice evokes both the deep south and west coast. Over the past five years, Shelley has recorded five albums, toured the globe with her band and on her own. Shelley released her debut “Ginko,” in 2012, followed by “Electric Ursa” in 2014. Her new release, a collaboration with guitarist Nathan Salsburg (Paradise of Bachelors, No Quarter), is titled “Over and Even.”

12:45 Rebecca Rego & The Trainmen
whatever...just don't call us a country band anymore
