Wick Radio - radio by the people for the people - is (finally!) back on air and they're coming down to Grow, Hackney for a Sunday Special this weeked.
Wick Radio are a rag-tag gang of musicians and artists hell-bent on promoting creativity, dialogue and, most importantly, spreading music. We can't wait to have them canal side broadcasting their show and we hope you can come down and join the party! You'll also be able to tune in to their online broadcast at www.wickradio.org
You never know what to expect from the WR crew. They promise a mixed bag of vinyl delights from smooth soul and doo-wop all the way to hip-hop and house. Plus they're bringing some live bands and some imprompty performances. Watch this space for the programme nearer the day,
If you want to get involved, whether it's playing some tunes, reading something you've written or just have a chat then get in touch with Wick Radio.
To accompany the tunes, Grow will also be serving up some fine food conjured up in the canal side kitchen by our September kitchen residents Zoe's Ghana Kitchen. Zoe started out in Hackney Wick for Hackney WickED and we're pleased to have her back with us at Grow.
About Wick Radio
Wick Radio was started in 2012 in the darkest depths of the Wick. Broadcasting out of whatever studio, warehouse or front room they found themselves in. They quickly built up a collection of weird and wonderful recordings which they streamed online and across the airwaves. They've been out of action for a while but WR is back. They were never far away.
About Grow, Hackney
Carved out of what was once a sausage factory, Grow has been transformed into a unique bar, kitchen and creative space. Hidden in a yard in the heart of Hackney Wick and backing onto the canal, it was built by a small team and is operating as an experiment in ethical and sustainable business. It's a space for music, art, conversation, community and good food where everyone is welcome. www.GrowHackney.co.uk
Our address is Grow, Hackney, 98C Main Yard, Wallis Road, Hackney Wick, E9 5LN. Just two minutes walk from Hackney Wick Overground (exit station onto Wallis Road, follow all the way round) and 15 minutes walk from Stratford.
