DESCRIPTION
Join us for Grow Your Own in Hackney Wick, where we join forces with local DJs to celebrate the music we love. Following on from the good times we had at our our first evening of NORTHERN SOUL in May, we do it again in August! Don't forget your dancing shoes! Featuring DJs:
? John the Revelator (Dirty Water Records, Heatwave)
? Jon Dabner (Dugout Soul Club, The Shakeup)
John the Revelator is a resident DJ for Dirty Water Records and Heatwave magazine, and runs legendary occasional club night Have Love Will Travel in Stoke Newington. Expect to hear northern soul classics, killer Motown movers and low-down R&B floorfillers.
Jon Dabner was raised in 60's south east London, profoundly influenced by mod culture and its music, going on to become a major jazz and soul music promoter – setting up Camden's The Jazz Cafe in the process and touring many of the world's top performers throughout the UK and Europe. He is and has always been in love with rare and northern soul amassing a vast vinyl collection. JD has DJ'd at many club venues in London and around the UK and is currently resident at Dugout Soul Club in Hackney and The Shakeup in Clapham. He is also strongly connected to the soul scene in northern Italy and journeys to Pisa, Genoa and Rome to play the allnighters.
Throughout August, in Grow's canal side kitchen, we have BBQ specialists SLOW FIRE!
About Grow, Hackney
Carved out of what was once a sausage factory, Grow has been transformed into a unique bar, kitchen and creative space. Hidden in a yard in the heart of Hackney Wick and backing onto the canal, it was built by a small team and is operating as an experiment in ethical and sustainable business. It's a space for music, art, conversation, community and good food where everyone is welcome. www.GrowHackney.co.uk
