This is the event page for the Earth Night / Share Your Cloud - Advocates of Change Action Day on Saturday, December 10, 2016 in Denver, Colorado. We will be volunteering with the organization A Little Something (The Denver Refugee Women's Craft Initiative), an group that is helping refugee women in Denver foster self-sufficiency through the beauty of handmade crafts.
Refugee women living in Colorado face many challenges, among them the often daunting task of achieving self-sufficiency. By forming a crafts cooperative, these remarkable women are pooling their talents, skills and creativity to earn money for themselves while adding a little beauty to the world.
We are inviting you to come volunteer at A Little Something's Holiday Craft sale! This is also a great time and place to browse and purchase some gifts for the holidays. All funds benefit A Little Something. At the sale, the majority of the space will be a where they will sell the jewelry, weaving, and knitting that they have on hand. The back part of the room will be the Yard/Yarn sale.
The sale starts at 10 am and goes until 5 pm. We will be volunteering from 2-6 pm. Helpers are needed to run the sale, answer questions, and convince people to buy yard-sale stuff. Salesmen, here's your chance! The most help will be needed from 5-6 pm as we break down. We ask that you stay to help pack up at the end if you can.
Although we will be volunteering from 2-6 pm, the sale begins at 10 am, and you are more than welcome to either lend them a hand or just browse at any time during the day.
Circumstance permitting, there is a chance we will be able to collaborate with one or more of the artists for a jewelry making workshop. Jewelry made during this time will be raffled off at the Papadosio show at The Fillmore that night. There also may be a chance to babysite 2-3 kids during this time.
We will meet in the Community Room on the 3rd Floor of the Mango House! The Mango House is a center for refugee connections and communications located just east of Denver at the edge of Aurora, CO. Another program that is offered at The Mango House is Project Worthmore (PWM), a nonprofit organization that seeks to improve the quality of life of Denver-area refugees by providing cultural mentorship, citizenship classes, English lessons and community support. The Project Worthmore food sharing and community gardening program provides the community with a Community Supported Agriculture program, while providing an opportunity for refugees to learn important skills. Right now, PWM is trying to raise $40K by the end of this year to employee more Denver refugees and begin the process of acquiring Delaney Farm. Do you like to get your hands dirty? If so, working with Project Worthmore's food sharing and community garden program could be a great volunteer opportunity for you. Grow and distribute vegetables all while getting to know refugee families and increasing food security for many of our neighbors. Be sure to visit www.ProjectWorthmore.org. Part of the proceeds from our Advocates of Change (Share Your Cloud) raffles will go towards this cause.
We will be meeting at The Mango House, located at 1532 Galena Street!
