ESG (Emerald, Sapphire and Gold) is an American post-punk band that emerged from the South Bronx, New York City, in the early 1980s. Trouser Press called it one of the most dynamic bands that New York could offer at the top of the '80s. ESG has been influential across a wide range of musical genres, including hip hop, post-punk, disco, and dance-punk. The band's track UFO is one of the most sampled songs in history.

Over the course of the last two decades, Detroit's ADULT. (Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller) have been perhaps one of the most fervent proponents of a dark, dance aesthetic that harnesses the perverse aspects of the late '70s analog dystopian modernism. Every song the duo constructs is a strenuous exercise in claustrophobia, anxiety and bleak humor expressed through raw synthesizers, ridged beats and the haunted voice of Kuperus. The melodies twist off their tonal centers and grind each other in dirty, unspeakable ways. ADULT. have remixed the likes of Tuxedomoon, Ladytron, Death in Vegas and covered songs from the Pet Shop Boys to the Screamers. ADULT. are preparing to release their sixth album entitled Detroit House Guests , which features six guest collaborators: Michael Gira (Swans), Dorit Chrysler (NY Theremin Society), Shannon Funchess (Light Asylum), Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe (Lichens), Lun•na Menoh (Les Sewing Sisters) and Douglas McCarthy (Nitzer Ebb).
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 12th
Doors: 5:00PM / Show at 8:00PM
DJs Justin Carver and Daniel Stolarski (Something Cold)
Synth-wave trio from Detroit featuring members of Double Winter.
Previously located in NYC, now Detroit-based post-punk outfit YOU. released their first two records on Cult of Youth's Sean Ragon's Blind Prophet Records. Their third LP Sunchaser was released on Dais in 2014. The label properly explains YOU.’s music up to this point has always pitted its more reflective elements against the austerity of electronics, not so much as to create a warm sound as to invite the listener in as respite from the cold . Bouquet is their fourth album and features nine new songs.
John Bender (Cincinnati)
Lo-fi minimal synth pioneer who recently started playing shows again after a thirty year hiatus, following recent reissues of his early '80s material on Superior Viaduct.
Xeno & Oaklander (NYC)
Xeno and Oaklander are a minimal electronics girl/boy duo, and they are based in Brooklyn, NY. They began writing music and soundtracks in 2004. Liz Wendelbo is French / Norwegian and Sean McBride is from Maryland. They record their songs live in their Brooklyn studio and play analogue synthesizers and instruments exclusively. They have worked with NY producer Chris Coady, and have recorded with producer Drew Brown at Hospital studios in London. They have toured the US, Europe and Russia numerous times, and they play extensively in New York in music venues, art establishments and festivals such as Chaos in Tejas, Buchla Source of Uncertainty, and the Moog showcase at SXSW. They have also performed at SF Moma, PS1 Warm Up, Miami Art Basel, the Zrich Kunsthalle and the New Museum in New York. Xeno & Oaklander have recently scored a soundtrack for Swiss artist Fabian Marti. Their latest Remixes are for British legend John Foxx; and French electronic artist Philippe Laurent.
Black Marble (Los Angeles)
Black Marble recently released their second full-length, Its Immaterial, on Ghostly International, and from a new locale, the West Coast. Still featuring Stewart at the helm along with select collaborators as supplementation, the bi-coastal shift lends a great deal to the overall feel of the new album. The light and dark elements of shadows. The salt and sting of evenings high tide sea spray. A beautiful thing left on a shelf too high to maintain. The general mood is that of creating something new, but going back in time to do it. Like attempting to flesh out a song that you woke up humming but cant find, because it doesnt exist yet.
Pylon Reenactment Society (Athens, GA)
When people talk about the beginnings of the music scene in Athens, GA the discussion usually begins “The B-52’s, R.E.M., ….” Those who know will continue the list, “Pylon.” They were every Athens band’s favorite Athens band. Their musical naïveté, southern upbringing, art school smarts, and house-party roots exploded together to create something quite improbably amazing, hitting the listener on mental, physical, and spiritual levels simultaneously. On the surface, their angular guitar parts and propulsive rhythm section had something in common with UK post-punk bands like Gang of Four and PiL. But Pylon was more fun and less studied. And they had a secret weapon in Vanessa Briscoe Hay, whose inimitable vocal textures and phrasing defined the band’s sound for most listeners.
