Reception: January 20, 6-9PM

MASKS:
There is something about shooting with a large format camera (in this case a 4x5 Sinar monorail). It slows you down. It takes time to set up the bulky tripod, to break open the case and pull out the camera, to position it, choose a lens, to position the subject, to focus and set the standards, and to finally cock and click the shutter.

The paper negative slows me down as well. Shooting at ISO 3. My subjects have to relax, to hold still for half to a full second of exposure.

There is something meditative about the process. The masks that a person has begins to melt away. There is no request to say cheese! or to pose in a particular way.

A person simply bares themselves for the camera. The masks melts.
