Cinema Casualties once again celebrates the holidays in style, this time taking on Valentine’s Day with George Mihalka’s 1981 slasher classic “My Bloody Valentine.” 20 years after a woman is brutally killed by a miner named Harry Warden on the titular holiday, the mayor of Valentine’s Bluffs decides to re-instate Valentine’s Day, which has been banned since the infamous murder. The locals are ready to celebrate, but someone has an axe to grind (literally), taking out members of the community one by one, leaving behind warnings fashioned after Valentine’s Day cards. Is Harry Warden back in town to finish what he started, or is someone else using his name to settle their own grudges? Cinema Casualties invites you to find out, and to help gleefully drain some of the sappy sweetness out of this holiday.
Cinema Casualties is a not-for- profit series dedicated to screening trashy, audience-friendly old-school horror movies, which seeks to bring people together as a celebration of the communal joy inherent in the film-going experience specific to the genre. The series has been running since July of 2015, mostly at ArtsRiot (with two screenings taking place at Main Street Landing Film House), and is going into its 14 th screening with “My Bloody Valentine.” It has been sponsored since March of 2016 by Bugatti Barbers on Pine Street in Burlington, and is both curated and hosted by David Zeidler.
