DESCRIPTION
Let’s use clay and sand to make beautiful things out of cast iron. We've partnered with Alisa Toninato of FeLion Studios and American Skillet Company for a four hour (plus) workshop to introduce us to the process of sand mould making for metal casting.
We’ll start with learning how to create patterns (ie: your ideas) in clay to turn your 2D images into 3D objects. Then, we’ll cover the process of measuring, mixing and throwing a two-part sand mould in preparation for to creating your very own custom cast iron creation. You’ll also have the option of coming back for a second day to deepen your experience and learn the dynamics of “gating” your sand moulds, which is how the metal enters the sand mould to fill up your creation with hot iron. Everyone’s sand moulds will be cast at the 2017 Pour'n Yer Heart Out community Iron Pour on February 11.
This class is designed best for go-getters, creatives, independent thinkers and folks who aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and get on their knees for something cool.
Cost is $170 ($165 for members). Space is limited to 15 guests. Registration ends on January 30 at noon or sooner if it sells out.
