DESCRIPTION
Tchaikovsky’s fantasy overture for Romeo and Juliet, his popular musical interpretation of the famous star-crossed lovers, kicks off this powerful and romantic program. Former Associate Conductor of the New York Philharmonic, Case Scaglione, debuts with a program that also includes Stravinsky’s famous ballet, Petrushka, which captures colorful and boisterous scenes from Russian street and theater life. Pianist Sung Chang returns to Symphony Hall after his Gold Medal-winning performance in the 2014 Bösendorfer USASU International Piano Competition with Liszt’s thunderously virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 1.
